Biography

Jovan Babic is Professor of Ethics at Belgrade University and Visiting Professor at Portland State University.

He has published two books, Kant and Scheler (1986), and Morality and Our Time (1998), and over sixty academic articles (among which are: "Pacifism: Is Its Moral Foundation Possible or Needed?," in Contemporary Yugoslav Philosophy: The Analytic Approach, ed. by A. Pavkovic, Kluwer, Dordrecht 1988; (with A. Jokic) "The Ethics of International Sanctions: The Case of Yugoslavia", Fletcher Forum of World Affairs Journal; "Justifying Forgiveness", Peace Review; "Die Pflicht nicht zu lügen - eine vollkommene, jedoch nicht auch juridische Pflicht", Kant-Studien; "Foreign Armed Intervention: Between Justified Aid and Illegal Violence", forthcoming in Broadview Press).

He was a recipient of MacArthur Foundation grant in their Global Security and Sustainability Program, January 2000-June 2002.During academic 2000/01he was Visiting Research Scholar at University of Arizona in Tucson.

His main research interests are in Normative Ethics, Kantian Ethics, Applied Ethics, Political Philosophy, and International Ethics.
